If you look at the interior shot you can see in the dust on the rear window someone has written "1968 Val Safari VIP". Model series is [VE]. They used modified 67 Dodge Dart front end The VIP was the top of the Valiant range and came standard with Chrysler's 273ci V8, front disc brakes, bucket seats, plush trim and other extras. The VIP Safari (wagons were called Safari's) also got electric window in the tailgate, and chrome roof rack with rear dust deflectors. VIP wagons were only produced for the [VE] series of Valiants and were not sold in great numbers, probably only in the hundreds. Also the [VE] series of Valiants were the only ones produced where the VIP version used a standard Valiant wheelbase. Later [VF] and [VG] series VIP's were built on a 4 inch longer wheelbase to give rear seat passengers more legroom. Also [VE] series VIP's were the only ones called Chrysler Valiant VIP. Later ones were called simply Chrysler VIP to distinguish them further from standard Valiants. |

Thanks valiant1962. It great to learn about cars that had their start in the States and later developed into something completely different in another country. The front end design (minus the grill) is straight from our 1967-69 Dodge Dart. I don't recall seeing a Valiant or Dart wagon based on the 1967 body style. This must have been an Australian development. Also the taillights on this wagon look very simuilar to the US version of the Barracuda of this same time period. I think they were copied from Barracuda taillights but are different. Also [VE] sedan and wagon taillights are different, even though they look the same. The wagon lights are narrower to allow for tailgate |

I just realised the number plates are AVE-067. VE's were released in October 1967, but these appear to be original issue NSW plates from around 1967-68 -- Last edit: 2007-02-18 05:45:19 |

Got half the VIN, whats the last numbers? Number plates are genuine to the car. |
