For English users, Kastenwagen is simply Van. T1 used from what's available Grossraum (yes I know the spelling is wrong), T2 started as Hochraum then back to Grossraum for 1971, but you would find Hochraum again in 1978 price list. T3 used Hochraum (in combination with Kastenwagen/Kombi) |

"Großraum" means "big space", "Hochdach" "high roof" As I'm even unsure by myself about the correct designation even in German (the VW-systematic is indeed very irritating), I only can guess, that the construction is crucial. At the T1 the higher roof was real coachwork, at the T2 and following generations it was just a plastic shell, mounted on the open roof-frame. |
