But, I somehow doubt the Westfalia equipment was shipped over there, isn't it rather made in Germany?

Louver windows usually indicate a Campmobile / Camping-car / Campingwagen or whatever its name was in South Africa (apparently not Kamper, as this latter had no "extra-roof"). This (1968-73 opening) roof should then be a factory-mounted part.

But as usual, we're talking about a 40- to 38-year old van (in 2008), so we should keep in mind that it could also have been somewhat "rearranged", although it seems to be still in its original condition.

Your link also states the early campers were expensive, probably due to the import of fully assembled campers, rather than cheaper later copies.
