Austin Gipsy? |

Has the same rear lights and tailgate as an Austin Gipsy. Its left-hand drive, though. Was the Gipsy ever retailed in the United States or Canada? |

This one - https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/4512930_1965-austin-gypsy - would suggest they were sold in the US. |

Looks like a Mk1 - no door handles - and early rear lights (Mk1 and Mk2). http://www.austinmemories.com/styled-69/index.html . No info about US sales, but if not CDN may have had some. |

Neither of my Imported Car books mention the Gipsy. The NADA Classic Car Pricing Online Guide doesn't list the model either. And I haven't been able to find any US brochures or ads. I did find this: "There were some 21,208 Gipsys built and they have a solid base of collector interest in the British Empire. They were exported almost everywhere and built in left-hand drive. There was an organized sales group in Canada, but not here (USA) and most of the Gipsys here came from north of the border. Collector interest here is nearly zero but they occasionally come up for sale." http://www.fourwheeler.com/features/1312-austin-champ-backward-glances/ On a British Car message board, a poster did note that the Gipsy was sold in Canada and that LHD versions were extremely rare. http://www.britishcarforum.com/bcf/archive/index.php/t-25782.html Hope they didn't plow the bulldozer into this one too. Grrrr! |
