Number of P IVs built is 18, including 1 truck, 1 landaulet and 2 dropheads. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Phantom_IV Total Number of Silver Wraiths built (sorry I haven't the figures on trucks, landaulets and dropheads) 1783. Likelihood of this being a P IV, therefore may be as low as 1783/14, or 127:1 and also /vehicle_221986-Rolls-Royce-Phantom-IV-4BP3-1953.html where the chrome strip referred to is absent in the subject vehicle. Allowing for those belonging to HM the Q, the Princess Margaret, and to Generalissimo Franco at the time this film was made, (a total of 6), the chances become even lower. I would suggest it's probably a Silver Wraith. -- Last edit: 2015-10-29 09:42:37 |

The reason I put P IV was because whomever posted the pic classified it as a limousine, If a sedan I agree with johnfromStaffs in that it is a Silver Wraith... |

There is a lot of difference of opinion on this database about what a limousine is, I think mainly stemming from the German usage, where even the VW Beetle of air cooled rear engine fame gets called "limousine". Those of us who go back a bit in years expect a limousine to have a glass division between the hired help in the driving seat and the old money in the back. There are various other sub divisions, getting into town cars, landaulets, and further, but, in my book, if you can talk to the driver without using a speaking tube, it isn't a limousine. On a further thought, my Bentley is described by the makers as a Sports Saloon, mainly because you can't walk through it while wearing a top hat without bending over a bit. |
