Looks like a Leyland Mastiff or Boxer but I'm no truck expert. -- Last edit: 2015-10-03 06:12:51 |

Given wheel size and ground clearance I have a feeling this will be a Reiver , a very popular six wheel tipper at the time. -- Last edit: 2015-10-04 08:08:49 |

Edit after considering the 1980 re-styled cab: For it to be Reiver it would be 1981-84, and as you say JCB that would be most likely. Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" Without seeing more, it is probably a 1981 Reiver with the outlined 'Leyland' lettering and 'Reiver' badge (not seen) both removed. For the earlier cab and the 'L' catherine wheel logo - The grille above headlights is brightwork on the old Albion nameplates (Reiver, Chieftain, Chieftain and Clydesdale). I have seen brightwork grilles added to a few of the painted-grille variants but, so far, not the other way round. If it is 6x4 then September 1972 - September 1980 Super Mastiff SMS2400 24-ton gvw 14ft wheelbase 6x4, I think. Boxers were 12-ton and 13½-ton gvw 151" wheelbase 4x2 at the time (although the range may have been extended). -- Last edit: 2015-10-04 13:54:29 |
