I think that it might be one of these, but it's a long shot, could be something American, and yes, I did notice the sidemount. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillman_Twenty-70_%26_16_h.p. -- Last edit: 2015-09-07 12:38:51 |

What do you do with the Hillman's 'safe' front door? ("Sidemount" is for the spare wheel, right?) |

Ford Model Y? Humber 12 Saloon? Lanchester 10? Lea-Francis Ace of Spades? Morris Cowley 6? Standard 9? Standard 10? Wolseley 9? (These are models in our db, for the year 1934, that could loosely fit, to my eyes.) |

Admit that it is not a correct guess, could be a Humber, though. -- Last edit: 2015-09-07 19:20:27 |

Ford, no too small. Humber 12, possible but more likely a bigger car. Lanchester 10, radiator grille wrong. Leaf, possible but http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/?man=3516 Morris Cowley, possible. Standard Nine/Ten, probably too small. Wolseley Nine, no illuminated radiator badge. |

The nagging thing here is that I'm sure, would you see the movie, even on a small screen, you'd tell immediately what the car was, John. |

I am inspired by your faith, but not by my knowledge! |

As another possibility, but without any certainty, to me it looks similar for size and appearance to a 1936 Triumph Continental 2-Litre Saloon except for some details (e.g. headlight size). |

Pas mal, pas mal, Sunbar. I'm going to scroll through the db for the 1935 year. |

1935 Armstrong Siddeley 12 hp or 17 hp? Bentley 3½ Litre? Daimler 15? Humber Snipe? (Maybe the Humber'd be too big.) Morris Eight? (None with a sidemounted spare wheel, unfortunately.) Rover [P1]? Triumph Gloria? Wolseley Hornet or Wasp? |

Armstrong 12, possible, 17 has vee radiator so probably no. Bentley no. Daimler flutes not visible.. Rover, possible but looks a bit upright. Triumph looks possible but bodywork on Gloria is a bit more sporting IMO. Wolseleys, no illuminated radiator badge. |

Armstrong 17hp.... I believe you hit on it! The radiator grille does have a 'Vee' in the movie I can see a highlight in two screen grabs where the point of the Vee occurs. Looks like this example to me, wheels also have the distinctive flat disc appearance. Link to "de.wikipedia.org" edit-updated The headlamp size and other body-work details are better matched to this example https://truck-uk.smugmug.com/ClassicCars/ARMSTRONG-SIDDELEY/i-HrgS76k/A ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-09-08 14:56:08 |

Go out to buy some dog food and it all happens! Well done. |

In your absence, johnfromstaffs, you pointed out the critical feature and direction to take! Without your comment about the 17hp having a Vee radiator grille I doubt I would have Googled it. I noticed the day before the grille was probably Vee-shaped and the pictures of the A-S 17hp coincided with the sort of appearance I was looking for. A good joint effort at elimination of possibilities, johnfromstaffs and DidierF! |
