Not so sure about a genuine Mercedes: possibly a... "Mercedised" other sedan. |

There are at least three cars. At first in the clip it's a 1968+ W115, the interior (0:33 onwards) is from a bigger Benz (W108? W111?) due the thick wood on the doors and about the boom-Benz I'm not sure, it's a mock-up. The grille and front hood is from a W115, too, but the rest looks somehow wrong, so the roofline is too low. |

They could blow up GAZ-24, disguised as a Mercedes. This was a frequent occurrence in Soviet films - if needed to destroy a foreign car, instead of them are destroyed the Soviet cars. -- Last edit: 2015-08-20 21:10:01 |

Agree, GAZ-24 is wider than W115, with very distinctive windshield. And they can't change it, which is nicely visible HERE. |

By the way, this scene begins the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UUWPHKRJO4 |

Nevertheless the GAZ-24 got the nickname "Russen-Mercedes" in the (West)German classic car scene. |

Volga in the USSR was exactly like this, being the most expensive and luxurious cars available in the country. -- Last edit: 2015-08-20 22:57:12 |

In the DDR it was available only for the Nomenklatura and taxi-VEBs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkseigener_Betrieb), for private persons only after they were passed down the steps as worn out clunkers. In West Germany it was never offered. |

In Italy The Volga M24 was on sale for a short while in the early '70 (1971-73) and again between late 1976 and 1978. |

In the USSR had a similar situation: GAZ-24 mainly was used officials, police, taxi (sedan 24-01 and wagon 24-04), ambulance (24-03). Private persons could buy a new GAZ-24, but for 9000 rubles - with an average wage of about 150 rubles. You had a great chance to get new GAZ-24, if you are a famous actor, worker, sportsman, etc. -- Last edit: 2015-08-20 23:53:45 |

When I remember I had just two experiences with Russian cars, both at DDR-visits. With a 1977 "Mossi" of aquaintances in 1989 and a Wolga GAZ-24 -of course a taxi- in 1988. |

I have no doubt Volga was playing Mercedes in crash & blow-up scene. Moskvichok, we need another pure W115 picture. |

Two more. For the interior-scene, too. That is clearly no /8 |

It was a fierce fire, if the Mercedes suddenly became Volga. |

Do you mind if I lay out here? And, I think, this "Mercevolga" - then 2 stars? -- Last edit: 2015-08-30 23:52:49 |

I thought about a W100 http://pics.imcdb.org/18686/000066280.jpg but by the other interior-pic it's quite sure a W108 |
