Beyond the Big Seven, a tall man, a lady and possibly another passenger, have just alighted a Morris Series II 16 or 18 or, maybe, Wolseley 14/56 or 18/80. In a virtually crime-free village in 1954, the driver hasn't bothered to turn his MRN key in the driver's door lock. |

I can't identify the black saloon, bottom left. 'Easiclean' wheels with late '30s Austin-type hubcaps, enamelled headlamps vs. bright metal finish, eliminating Cambridge 10hp. Driver's door pressing unconvincingly suggests Ford - probably a trick of the light. Maybe late pre-war Jowett(?) but so long since I've seen one. (Seven or so, in a deceased owner's Selhurst back garden, early 1972 - all were lost. Still haunts me.) Morrison's supermarket occupies their old factory site, near Bradford. |
