The centrepiece of the film as our hero hires it for a 2 week tour from London to Cornwall during the autumn - always seen spotlessly clean and shiny in the sunshine. With local features: War and Peace opened in UK autumn 56 which gives a filming date - never seen it - tried to read the book several times and gave up each time, so the appeal of a 3½ hour screen version does not float my boat. - never realised the A95 was launched just as Big Ben was being finished suspension bridge at Marlow "wild" ponies on Dartmoor - Dartmoor is not a safe place to try fast driving at night Polperro, Cornwall The Lugger Inn, Portloe, Cornwall Details 90 mph in a wallowing barge with a four-speed column change - no thanks - maybe I'll watch War & Peace instead or even try the bloody book again. One noticeable habit through the film is how column change and bench seats allowed everyone to slide across easily and get out on the kerbside. Very rare if anyone got out into the road.
