The car keeps popping up in the hearse collector scene. It is a Portugese built funeral car based on a 1958 Buick Special 4 door sedan. Once I get around sorting my archive, I can let you know who the coachbuilder is - the company is still in business. |

Could it be Carroçarias Murteira? |

I´d be VERY interested in getting that information. Merely little information and many urban legends seem to be known about Portuguese hearse builders, though there has been a greater bunch of them around. The Buick shown here could be supposedly built by a company named Galego, but that´s just a guess. |

This car always confused me. The four headlights came from a 1958 Buick, but the rest of the car certainly is NOT a 1958 Buick! The coachbuilder seems to have blended parts from both 1958 and what appears to be the 1953 period. |

Since the car was offered for sale earlier this year, we now know it's based on a 1951 Buick Super Riviera of Belgian origin and was converted into a hearse in the 1970s. Coachbuilder was reportedly located in Vila Nova de Gaia – could this be Carroçarias Laborim? |

Unusual conversion. Clearly an early 50's style Buick from the side/front but from the rear, it looks like something from the early 1960's, perhaps because of the tail lamps, which remind me of 1962 Olds units. Interesting. Quite a mongrel, but interesting. -- Last edit: 2019-12-31 21:51:25 |

Hearses from Portugal of that era quite often tend to be quite a mixture. Seems like they only used General Motors parts this time - Chrysler- and Ford-components wouldn't have been surprising, though. Yes, Tönz: Carroçarias Laborim makes perfect sense and their hearses look 'that way' (as far as one can tell, because they are probably all one-offs). |

Hello community! This 1951 Buick has been converted into a funeral car by Carrocerias Laborim in Portugal. It is the only one existing and it is for sale. If anyone is interested in buying it just contact me via email: info@quraid.com |

Exciting news, JAT! I sincerely hope it finds a caring new owner who can bring it back to its full magnificence. Here is the picture JAT shows on the German hearse discussion board. He also added, that another identical car was built by Carroçarias Laborim, but has been demolished long ago after being damaged in an accident. |

1951 Buick Super Riviera , By Carroccerias Laborim/Vila Nova de Gaia in 1970 , build with 1958-1960 parts. There was a second one , but this one is scrapped after it was involved in a exident. |
