That model exists since 1988(seems roof mechanism and body modification was studied in Germany by Karmann),maybe that was of years later |

well i am not sure here, but I know, that XJ-S convertibles were made since early 80s - not sure if by Jaguar itself.. But they were quite common in the US. Anyway XJS convertibles were jaguar made. |

The XJS Convertible [XJ-77] was designed by Jaguar Coventry, with Karmann contracted to design the soft-top hood and manufacture the tooling for that and the new panel pressings. I worked with Jaguar Engineering on the XJ-77 visiting Karmann in Germany as part of the supplier base. The tooling was shipped to the UK and cars were produced by Jaguar themselves in Browns Lane Coventry. Before this I understand the Cabriolet version was a conversion made by Tickford from the Coupe and then sold by Jaguar. |
