No. The Metropolitan police and the outfit called (I think) the Public Carriage Office insisted on very strict observance of their antiquated rules for the construction of London taxis, meaning that the manufacturers continued to produce vehicles of archaic design. My family visited London a lot in the 1950s to obtain medical treatment for my brother, and I have clear memories of these cabs still being in use.
