The picture shown is from I think from a different scene. edit: To be confirmed. Probably the best view of a (very) background Land Rover that should not be present in a World War II movie. Also a Ford Anglia/Popular and possibly other 1950-60s cars. -- Last edit: 2008-06-08 15:12:13 |

This is an even younger Land-Rover 109" Series II Station Wagon (1958). The car to the right looks like a Morris Minor Convertible. |

I think you could be right about the Morris Minor, Alexander but I thought it was larger either a Wolseley or a Morris Six. I will look again at the movie for the older Land Rover and add it if possible depending on how visible it is. -- Last edit: 2008-06-08 15:08:13 |

I thought the Morris was an Oxford MO, but I've maybe been identifying too many cars for sixcyl |

The Land Rover in the main picture almost certainly belongs to the movie company. It is seen here also on the location shoot at Bovingdon Airfield... Picture from http://www.controltowers.co.uk/B/Bovingdon_633_Squadron.htm |

Remember, this was filmed on a what was at the time working airfield, so that other Land Rover would have been their emergency crash tender. Its pretty bad they couldn't frame the shots better or clear the vehicles before filming, but at least it gives us something to look at! The Series 1 appears in the middle of the film. There is a bit where the whole squadron is practicing the bombing maneouver and one crew gets it wrong and crashes into the hillside. There are a couple of officers observing this at the time, and just after the crash they get into their vehicle. All that can be seen of it through the bushes is the windscreen and left door top, but these are enough to identify it as a Series 1 Land Rover, probably an 80". |

I've just had this crop up on my Land Rover club's forum confirming the training exercise observers did use a Land Rover. Details are here http://www.series2club.info/forum/index.php?topic=40617 I'm afraid I don't know how to put photos up here or add vehicles to the list, so would someone in the know mind doing the honours please. As far as I can tell, it is a Series 1 80". As for the year, the only clue is the sidelight in the front of the wing making it sometime between 1950 and 1953 if I remember correctly. |
