RMA 930P ✓ Taxed Tax due: 01 July 2019 ✓ MOT Expires: 28 June 2019 Vehicle make: LAMBORGHINI Date of first registration: November 2002 Year of manufacture: 1976 Cylinder capacity (cc): 2996 cc Fuel type: PETROL Export marker: No Vehicle status: Tax not due Vehicle colour: RED Chassis #1060599, engine #20204 imported from ZA in 2002 according to 2010 auction notice, originally painted, repainted in its current red livery in 2003/2004. Which seems straightforward enough. But some unexpected info here - "1976 Urraco P300. Chassis Number 20204 is this Metallic Gold car with Beige Leather interior, currently believed to be residing in UK. It is fitted with engine number 20204. Other Information: Registered BVT 664T in South Africa. Believed to be one of a handful assembled in South Africa in the mid-70s. In 2002 this 1976 Urraco P300 S was exported to the UK and registered RMA 930P. After a long period in storage the car was repainted red." Clearly the same car, although gives different chassis # (same as the auction notice engine #) but the ZA assembly is a surprise. Can anyone confirm this happened??? |

This sounds like a load of .... but will check Not a load of bull! Seems like importers Intermotormakers assembled very few (of the already few anyway) early 70s Lamborghinis and even 8 Lotus Esprit S1 from CKD's. Funny how you read about this stuff all your life and there's still something to learn.. Additional links other than the above: BringATrailer owner in comment section claims has a SA-built Urraco https://bringatrailer.com/2009/02/26/9th-one-built-1972-lamborghini-urraco/ "...I own a ’76 P300 and which was built under licence from Lamborghini in South Africa by Intermotormakers. She was stored for many years in SA and also here in the UK..." English wiki on Countach no less SA CKD's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Countach#Production_figures Lotus Forums owner on the 8 Esprit S1 Link to "www.thelotusforums.com" So a few different sources and apparently legit news (to me..) ..and still more info on #20204 and SA builds from lamborghini-talk.com and the owner of car 20204 https://www.lamborghini-talk.com/search/217064/?q=south+africa&o=relevance "... a very poorly documented history of the involvement in SA of Intermotormakers (IMM) who were set up in about 1975 to officially import CKD Lamborghini and Lotus models. In the case of Lambo, IMM took kits of parts from Italy to assemble Urraco, Countach and Espada models. A automotive journalist friend in Cape Town is currently preparing an article which will describe the full facts with pictures, all of which is available from his friend who worked for IMM. I am told only 5 Urraco P300 were assembled, two are known to survive, one of which is 20204... IMM sent their chief engineer to Sant'Agata to learn from the workforce how the cars were assembled... According to sketchy information I was told... IMM built approximately 10 Countach, 10 Espada and 6 Urraco P300's... According to the Lamborghini Registry my car 20204 / 1060599 is the only SA built Urraco P300 listed.... -- Last edit: 2023-02-12 00:16:44 |
