'48/early '49 alright but can't conclude Custom Eight. Custom Eights had the doubled side chrome I don't see here although the photo isn't the best and trim could have been removed. Grille too blurry to tell mesh pattern.

Believe I will list as Super Eight as it visually appears more likely to be one.

I think we are both wrong. If you have the book "Encyclopedia of American Cars 1946-59" by James Moloney and George Dammann (Crestline 1980), on page 213, at the bottom, there is a picture that exactly matches the one in the film. The one in the picture above has the same 4 wraparound chrome strips on the grille like the one in the book does. All the caption says is that it is an early '48 model introduced in the summer of '47.

Well, we can't both be wrong because Packard only had convertibles in 2 lines for the 22nd series (1948-early '49 model).
The two were in the Custom Eight and Super Eight line. The other 3 lines did not carry convertibles.

This cannot be a Custom owing to the lack of double chrome side trim and per the pattern of the grill extentions going around the front fender sides.
The Super Eight had this pattern of three bar extentions while the Custom Eight only had 2 bars going around from the front.

I still feel this is a Super Eight barring trim alterations from factory.

(I regret I do not have the book volume of which you speak. Could you scan the photo and caption. Sounds interesting.)

As far as year is concerned, I simply assume the 1948 models (22nd Series) were introduced in mid-'47.

I will scan and post here > Maybe you can tell me what it is.
I've got it scanned to the computer. How do I get it from computer to here. Everything I tried so far not working.

Good question. I've never tried to place a photo in the reply section before, just links.
You could upload the photo to some site like Imageshack then place the link here.

Production of 4,750 matches that of the Super Eight.

OK Thanks. The caption doesn't say one or the other. The main text is confusing. And again thank you for clarifying
