1977 BMW 530i - not normally sold in UK, but homologation allowed component selection from other markets which meant this US spec car was allowed. Same loophole a few years later meant Andy Rouse officially raced a Merkur XR4Ti in 85/86 instead of a Sierra, and was 85 champion. |

The same trick was used in the french and belgian production series. The cars were supposed to be US-spec models, but in reality they were standard euro-spec 530 saloons with fuel injection added. No big US bumpers or side markers were ever seen on those cars. Adding "made for US" on this entry is quite dubious. -- Last edit: 2014-02-22 13:45:33 |

Even if they had to use US-spec for homologation, 3.0 Lt engines carb or injected were available in tiny numbers in Europe for your street E12, though these were more like optional packages. http://e12.de/primary/01001l20.htm go to The BMW E12 Range ->BMW Motorsport GmbH So yes you could have a Euro/UK spec 530/530i E12 even if none were found in showrooms.. -- Last edit: 2020-04-21 17:05:27 |
