2001+ in Australia. Built in Germany. -- Last edit: 2018-12-02 15:10:06 |

Surprised they were not built in UK for Aus. Also surprised to read on wiki that no German assembly listed for this gen (or the previous gen which had Genk assembly). If wiki is correct, Genk assembly stopped for this [VH] gen, suggesting Aus could only have been supplied from UK or Turkey. And there seems no reason to use German origin for this generation anywhere in the world. |

Ford Transits in Australia were initially imported from the UK from 1994, and all VINs from this era start with a "S" which indicates UK assembly. However, from around 1998 onwards, the VINs have a "W" in front. I know for a fact that all Transits in Australia from 2005 onwards were imported from Turkey (these VINs also start with W), but I'm unsure about the 1998-2004 period. Redbook Australia, for example, lists the country of origin as UK for all 1994-2000 models, Germany for 2001-2004 models, and Turkey for 2005 onwards. -- Last edit: 2018-12-02 03:27:00 |

Something doesn't add up somewhere ... Reading wiki again, it seems no Transits of any generation after the German Taunus Transit (1953-65) were ever built in Germany so any "Origin D" for any generation can be questioned. I had understood that the 1965 Transit project was enforced by Detroit as a joint UK-D collaboration to make its 2 unwilling main European arms work together as a preparation for long-term merger into Ford of Europe, followed by the Escort Mk1 as their first joint car, but in both cases Ford Germany seems to have sat back and let Dagenham do all the work, so the first actual joint project was the Capri. So there's an argument for removing origin D from all 1965+ Transits - they never made them, and their design input may have been a lot less than we've assumed. I'm not particularly trying to argue that all Transits should therefore become exclusively origin UK, as with Genk production until 2000 some origin B may be appropriate within first 3 generations as a replacement for those which currently get origin D (which is not assigned very scientifically at the moment against origin UK). |
