Why 'Made for GB'? According to /vehicle.php?id=659362 (Quote) "for local cars in local countries the 'Made for' is not used". I don't understand  . |

zodiac: What I meant is local cars as in locally designed cars Example (Toyota in Japan, Morris in UK) The Made For is used to indicate export market changes, as we never used this tag on domestic cars in domestic locations. During the time the model T was made, all Fords were more or less the same, with CKD manufacturing almost all over the world. However, when the model T stopped it seems the different plants developed their own models with domestic suppliers for parts (UK, France, USA, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Sweden...). That annoyed Ford, which decided to use more parts in common, which consequently lead (from the 70's) to more common design. But a lot of manufacturing remained in different countries. Hence Fords aimed for the British market were mostly made in Britain (Dagenham and Liverpool and probably some more places), Fords aimed for the German market was mostly made in Germany (Cologne and?), and not a lot were exported bwtween the countries. As far as I know the RS 2000 is a British model (Dagenham?). |

@kegare: Why not using 'Equipped for' instead of 'Made for' as 'Made' means a lot more hazel than 'Equipped'? A sticker /vehicle.php?id=658469 shouldn't qualify for a 'Made for'  . -- Last edit: 2013-12-28 11:57:21 |

My understanding is that all the really sporty Mk1 Escorts (RS 1600/2000 and Mexico) were developed and made in UK, but for Mk2 production was switched to Germany (RS 1800/2000 and Mexico). |

In 'Auto katalog 1977' it's stated under 'Ford England, Escort' that (my translation from Germany) "Preserved and and technically matured car from the lower middle class with conventional technology. Enigines with 1.1 litre, 1.3 litre and 1.6 litre as well as the more sporty models RS 1800, Mexica and 2000." (page 62) At the "Technology in detail" pages at the end of the catalog it's stated under Ford GB, Escort that "All models as of Ford Germany." (page 186). I don't know how to interpret that. Does it mean that the models were made both in Germany and Britain (Liverpool, I've found out) or that it was exported from Germany to UK. Where did you find your information? What made me comment was that I have never seen a RS 2000 in Sweden , but a lot on British television. Edit: What I meant with the last comment is that Ford in Sweden didn't because of some reason (Difficulty to get cars because of strikes in England? Quality issues? Or a fear that the British cars wasn't as good as the German ones?) import any greater amount from UK. I was surprized when I recently read that also the 1972-75 Consul (Granada) sold in Sweden was made in Germany (and not in England as was my first thought). -- Last edit: 2013-12-28 13:08:36 |
