Quote VW camat is a popular name for VW safari by the Indonesian people as it was operated by the indonesian subdistrict office (kecamatan) back in 1970s. There are about 6793 kecamatan in indonesia (1.990.250km2). in every office usually they have more than 2 VW safari and it is well operated in the poor road conditions in most of kecamatan during that time. This car is use by kecamatan head (camat) to visit villages in his kecamatan area..the people all over indonesia then call this car 'VW camat'. Now, most of them still survive..well maintain by indonesian VW enthusiast community..
