yes, addy88, but another GM, 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe
Link to "commons.wikimedia.org"
the Opel Kapitän Coupé was copycat of that.

Impala was a trim of Bel Air back in '58.

Maybe it is 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe?

ady88: yes ... and yet, still more. :-) This is a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Impala coupe. As kegare points out, in 1958, the Bel Air was the highest trim level for Chevrolet; but you could also order an extra "Impala" trim option on top of that. The sheet metal on a Bel Air Impala was different from the cowl to the back of the car, although this is hard to see here. In this picture, the chrome spears in front of the rear wheels give it away. Bel Air Impalas also had three taillight lamps instead of two. In 1959, the Impala became the top trim level, and the Bel Air became the middle line.

This car is a 1958 Impala, the trim is specific to the Impala. Note the "fake" vent on the lower quarter panel in front of the rear wheel, this was only used on the Impala.

It is still a Bel Air... Impala is a trim.

True, technically the Impala was part of the Bel Air model line for 1958, and didn't become a separate model until 1959. That said, Chevrolet's 1958 Brochure referred to the car as simply the Impala Sport Coupe.

In the brochure it says "the BEL AIR line" in the box on top of the page and then it says Impala. In the foldout it says "The Bel Air Impala Convertible":

I am not disputing the fact that it was technically a "1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Impala", or that the Impala is part of the Bel Air line (if you read my earlier post, you'll see that). I am well versed in Chevrolet's history. I am just stating that most often it was simply referred to as a 1958 Chevrolet Impala, even though "Impala" was technically a model within the Bel Air line. Chevrolet even labeled it as such in some cases in their literature. The car itself only has Impala name tags, and no "Bel Air" name tags. I am just curious why the car is only listed as a "Bel Air" while the Impala is not part of the model name, when most people who would search for this car would search for a 1958 Impala as the car is commonly known.

We agreed to list this as Bel Air Impala for 1958 model year only based on my reasoning at /vehicle_117592-Chevrolet-Bel-Air-1958.html as part of the model number series, caprice_96. Yes, the "Bel Air" script was nowhere to be found on both Sport Coupe (There is also Sport Coupe in the Bel Air name) and Convertible for the Impala model. By then in 1959, the Bel Air has demoted to second trim level.

I am not sure if other administrator would want to change this as we set up in the IMCDb standard here

Hi rjluna2 it might be helpful to ad chassis number, as you suggested here:
/vehicle_192693-Chevrolet-Bel-Air-1847-1958.html
here it is made clear that it is Impala model 1847 in the Bel Air 1800 series

That was my reference that I intended to look it up later. This one is 6-cylinder version, so model 1747.

ah, so what is the visible difference, between 6 and 8 cyl., please?

The difference between the 6-cylinder and V8 engine is that it has V badge at both front bonnet and rear boot for the V8 version. The 6-cylinder version did not have those V badges. This only applies to 1958 model year.

I see your reasoning, and it's up to the administrators on how you want to label these cars. The average "car guy" who searches for the car would most likely search "1958 Chevrolet Impala." As it stands now, nothing came up for me when I search for 1958 Chev Impala. Maybe it's possible to list the model name as "Bel Air Impala" instead of having just "Bel Air" in the searchable part of the model name.

3.0 actually (current one is the 2nd version of the site, first one didn't live very long)
More details will be provided when it is closer to completion, we hope for 2014.

Thanks for all the information regarding the updates. I noticed in these postings:

/vehicle.php?id=645822

/vehicle_7081-Ford-Fairlane-1957.html

That you have separate listings for 1957 Ford's. One for the Fairlane and one for the "Fairlane 500". Could this not be applied to the 1958 Chev? Have one model name for the "Bel Air" and one for the "Bel Air Impala"?
