 Agreed, definitely a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Town Victoria Fordor Sedan, Factory Sand Shell Beige Exterior. In this scene early on in the movie, Mitch Brenner, played by Rod Taylor, pulls away from the San Francisco pet store but not before Melanie Daniels played by Tippi Hedron, makes a note of his license plate number which she uses to track him to Bodega Bay.

 Don't know why this is 3 stars...it's barely even 2 stars because we don't see anyone get in- it just pulls out of the shot. BTW, it makes me wonder why Mitch chose to use Melanie's small soft-top convertible instead of this. He did say the Aston was faster than the pick-up but did not mention this car.

The '59 Ford next to the burning '51 Plymouth is supposed to be Mitch's car; I never realized this before (because Mitch is shown driving a '62) but sure enough, the license number is the same:
