..I guess it depends who was driving the Diablo.! :) (..I don't care ..for me personally ..if the diablo was miles faster ... I'd still have the aston every time.!)

Was this from the "Top Gear Supercars" video, rather than the episodes? I own this video myself :D

You're sort of right. I worked in the engineering group at Aston Martin in 1993 when this was made, and was one of the team of 7 people to build K377 APP (the read Vantage). That car was referred to as the 'FEP', or Full Engineering Pilot. It was the first 'complete' Vantage - the project code was 2055 and that was car 2055/5. The four cars prior to that - 2055/1,/2,/3 and /4 were all engineering development cars. K984 XNK is actually the black car that raced at Santa Pod and, from memory, was car 2055/4. It did start out life as a virage but was significantly re-engineered - the vantage engine, had a vantage front-end and pop-rivoted on vantage rear end (albeit, I think, with the virage light clusters). It was Virage internally, but had no back seat - my very first day on the job as an apprentice student was sat holding on to the wooden shelf that the correvit / testing equipment would be bolted to. The carw as also covered in sensor wires that ran back thorugh the car and into the back seat area. So yes, it was built as and probably registered as a Virage, but it certainly wasn't a virage at the time it was tested.

There was a Green Vantage that may have been 2055/2 or /3 - that was a show car and, although cosmetically correct externally, could not be driven properly - the wheels were cast replicas I recall. There was a silver virage too that was simply an original virage with the Vantage engine, and I can't for the life of me work out what whe final of the five development cars was - it was possibly a crash test car.

I know this is old but I would do anything to get my hands on a copy of the Top Gear video (broadcast circa April 1993) that showed the Aston vs Diablo race. I lost it during a house move some time ago. It was the same episode, I recall, that covered the launch of the DB7 at the Geneva motorshow.

Should anyone stumble across this and be able to help, PELASE contact me

Simple really...
Diablo VT was 492bhp and 580Nm of torque
Vantage was 550bhp and 746 Nm of torque!!!!!

It is indeed the "Top Gear: Supercars" video that features both K377 APP and K984 XNK (with the latter racing the Lamborghini Diablo.) This video is similar in format to Clarkson's later videos in which he road-tests a series of cars. It was apparently released in 1994, so it's too early to have covered the DB7 launch.

There are some used VHS copies of "Supercars" available in the UK. Its Amazon ID number is B00004CODU.
