With every respect, I cannot understand the sense in showing rear views of coachbuilt buses, and expecting accurate identification. This can only happen if the vehicle is one of a known series, which was perhaps purchased by a large operator. Small "lightweight" vehicles i.e. not Leyland or AEC for example, could be bodied on chassis from Austin, Bedford, Commer, Fordson, Guy, Jensen, Karrier, Morris, Seddon, Sentinel, Star, Thornycroft, Tilling-Stevens, Vulcan, to name only some, and present identical appearance from the rear. If the body were built by, say, Santus of Wigan, Thurgood, or Bellhouse-Hartwell, or similar small, or even local coachbuilder the chance of identifying the chassis from a rear or side view are almost zero. This is particularly the case if the bus is with its 2nd, 3rd or even 10th owner, as frequently was the case in the Northern Isles. Rant over. -- Last edit: 2013-06-22 13:14:36 |

I never expect. But I do hope. Buses are a foreign country to me, so I throw them to see what emerges, and in case the plate can give the answer. -- Last edit: 2013-06-25 13:03:06 |

Just realised this is actually Stromness pierhead. Probably still County Show arrivals, but off the ferry so bus-ride to Kirlwall. Main upgraded. |
