Origin EU for the Carisma and the Space Star i think. |

This is disputable IMO. Are there really somehow independent European Mitsubishi branch in Europe (independent at the level of for example British/German Fords). Who pays the bills? Not Japanese? |

No,Europe. |

You don`t know the 90s, when Mitsubishi and Volvo made cars together in Holland ? -- Last edit: 2016-10-18 10:35:42 |

It is disputable indeed. The Space Star was based on the Carisma, which was developed in Europe along with the Volvo S40/V40. Diesel power came from Renault, and according to the Mitsubishi dealer my parents went to, back in the 1990s, there was little comparable with Mitsu's Japan-made offerings. A lot of bits were Carisma-only. |

For the infos I have, it's not very easy to understand. What I know for sure is: - the Carisma was developped together with Volvo (not by Volvo alone, so no origin Sweden) - the Carisma and its derivative Space Star were exclusive models for European markets - both were built at the NedCar plant then owned by Mitsubishi in Born/Sittard-Geleen in Limburg (NL): at those times the plant was owned by a joint venture between Volvo, Mitsubishi and the Dutch government My doubts are: - the Mitsubishi-contribution to the development was made by Japanese Mitsubishi or by the European branch (which is headquartered in NL and owns a R&D centre in Germany)? - or maybe it was the same NedCar to manage the development for both Mitsubishi and Volvo models, although it doesn't seem the factory was active in R&D at those times? As an example, I noticed that we use here on the side to consider the Volvo 300-series as Dutch origin, but here it's confirmed that its development was begun by DAF which then became Volvo Car BV after the acquisition. So at those times R&D was active in Born, but I really don't know if it was too after the joint-venture which lead to rename Volvo Car BV of Born as NedCar BV. |

dutch origin for the all Nedcar products,so. |

At least for the ones made when Volvo was still taking part in the ownership. The Mitsubishi Colt and smart Forfour were indepentently developped (the Colt was also assembled in Japan and came into European production one year after the Japanese launch), and the Mitsubishi Outlander is purely Japanese origin. -- Last edit: 2016-10-18 22:07:10 |

I'd Netherlands origin for Volvo models from 1976 to 2004 of Nedcar plant, and until 2001 for Mitsubishi models of Nedcar. |

Seems a good proposal. And so the models would be: - Volvo 66 - Volvo 300 series - Volvo 440 / 460 / 480 - Volvo S40 Gen. 1 - Volvo V40 Gen. 1 - Mitsubishi Carisma - Mitsubishi Space Star (the minivan, NOT the Mirage-rebadging built in Thailand, of course) Let's wait for other users' / admins' opinions. |

These are origin NL because from the ex-DAF team, not just because built by Nedcar. origin = where it was conceived (+ possibly designed) for the factory location there is a "made in" flag. |

Dutch origin for the Volvo of Nedcar and Belgian origin of the models of for the Volvo plant in Ghent ? -- Last edit: 2016-10-19 20:36:12 |

Ghent is only a production plant for what I know. R&D should be Sweden for all Volvos except Dutch ex-DAF models. |

Anyhoo, I noticed the Carismas are now "Origin : EU" and "Made in NL" in the database, and as the Space Star is a derivative of the Carisma, engineered, built and sold in Europe only, I've updated the Space Stars as such. And added their chassis code [DG]. Two of them are also called Colt Space Star now, as that was their initial name in the UK market : /vehicle_760644-Mitsubishi-Colt-Space-Star-DG-1999.html |
