This Anglia was 1948-53 UK production. I don't know of any overseas assembly (particularly African) so assume UK made unless anyone can add info. Plate looks UK format but I assume is local derivative.

I think the only overseas production of the E494A was in Australia, where according to Wikipedia Oz-only models (2-door tourer, 2-door coupé-utility, 4-door saloon[!]) were added to the saloon and panel van. Wiki also adds that the E04A was fitted with the 1172cc motor for export, and I can state that this applied to the E494A as well as my Aunt's 1950 French-market model had the larger unit (but RHD; go figure).

I've seen book photos of export E494As for US with 1172cc engine fitted with the 3-section grille from the Fordson vans instead of the normal 2-section.

dsl: The 1946-early 48 cars built for the US had the three-slot grille in place of the square one, it was replaced by the 2- slot when those came into production.

Thanks - noted. My book source is
[Image: fordatdagenham.jpg]
which has various snippets of info rather than absolute detail; these are scattered within photo captions, not text or tables. The photo mentioned above with 3-piece grille and 1172cc shows an Anglia crossing Brooklyn Bridge.

Another photo caption says 10,250 10hp (=1172cc) cars and vans were exported to US in 1948, including a specially-liveried batch of cars for salesmen of "Nutty Club" candies - the B&W photo shows a neat line of 6 Anglias in pale colour with dark (black?) wings and sign-writing, but no clear view of grille
[Image: fordatdagenhamnuttyclub.jpg]
and the link suggests these were actually Canada not US. The book also has photos of export E04A Anglias with square grille being shipped to Sweden ("the first Anglia to arrive in Stockholm after the war") and a long line of maybe 20 which had just arrived in Brazil for final assembly at the docks in Santos in 1947.

So Ford seem to have been doing all sorts of permutations for the various markets ....
