I'd say Hillman Minx Estate: /vehicle_22946-Hillman-Minx-Estate-Arrow-1969.html
The logo and the front bumper seem different, though.

Some Peykans have this short front bumper - check 'Peykan' at Google Images (@dsl: read and weep). LHD, too.

Could be identified as Iran Khodro Paykan if it were a saloon. :/

AFAIK Paykan never used this grille and round headlight, but could be wrong (and I'm not sure what Estates they did produce in Iran). If they did not, LHD suggests it would be a Sunbeam Minx Estate not Hillman. But Minx estates did not have these perforated wheels, so I'm confused. I'll email paykanhunter. Are there any clues for date and origin from the film?

They produced an Estate version of the Paykan. http://www.paykanhunter.com/2010/02/beige-wagon.html shows a Paykan Estate in the UK, so other Paykans could be in other parts of Europe (Germany, in this case).

@Tiggo: that Estate isn't a Paykan, it's a Hunter according to the text. As far as I can see Paykan never made an Estate, but might have thought of it. Early Paykan pickups did use this grille, round headlight and bumper; presumably in CKD days Iran Khodro simply had to use whatever Rootes sent them.

... and Tiggo's link ^^ is definitely a normal UK Minx Estate, not a Hunter (despite the text calling it a Hunter). As for chris40's comment about the Paykan pickups using this grille, Rootes stopped all UK use in 1970, so probably shipped the tooling to Iran to let them do what they wanted; the same thing happened with the Vogue grille, again not used in UK after 1970 and then used on some Paykan trim levels.

@S 415 GT: wasn't there a closer description of the car? It's a manhunt-pic, so at least make and model should be mentioned (btw.: the whole series was about that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aktenzeichen_XY_%E2%80%A6_ungel%C3%B6st )

They only said, that this is a Hillman estate, nothing more about the model.

dsl SX

... which could just be totally accurate. It was launched in 67 as just Hillman Estate, and then became Hillman Minx Estate in 68 (and then Hunter Estate in 70 when new grille with rectangular lights). I would normally expect LHD to be Sunbeam not Hillman, but this is not absolute in all cases. So if they said Hillman Estate, it's probably simplest to accept the name.

What's up with the plate? Any DVLA-chances?

Mid 1962 combination, issued Wigan - no logical connection, especially as LHD.

And undoubtedly fake; good try at the font but the J isn't British.

@chris40: this series (Wiki-link above) was exclusively for the manhunt of criminals, so -if the police-searchers didn't make a mistake- it was a real plate, because it was explicitly described.

dsl SX

If a real plate it is not UK. Therefore we need a European format which matches, plus a country which kept the Hillman name instead of Sunbeam. AFAIK - and I'm not 100% on the exact list - Hillman countries were only a few small market territories such as Greece, maybe Hungary, Romania, and maybe even Cyprus, Israel, Syria. Bigger markets such as France, Austria, Benelux, Italy, CS, Scandinavia, SF, Poland etc should all be Sunbeam. Malta assembly was RHD as Hillman.

@S 415 GT: um was ging es in der Episode? Von wem und woher sollte der Hillman sein?

It was about a couple that stole 3.5 million Schilling from a bank account, the man is german and the woman is austrian.
They also say that the car was blue and has a british numberplate.

There is an error somewhere in the account. The only suffix plate for JEK 730 which was issued from 1963 to 1974 was JEK 730H, which was a 1970 Ford Cortina 1600E. JEK 730N was issued in mid 75 and JEK 730V in 1980 but both are no longer traceable. It could have been a fake plate, particularly in the circumstances. I doubt if we can get a better ID than we have now - too much confusion.
