Lateef ◊ 2023-10-24 22:08	King Muskar's Packard is pretty much an artist impression of a Packard. I disagree with current listing of '38 Eight, as that's a Junior Packard. While it does bear a resemblance to '38/'39 Packards the most, a lot of details are off, such as the suicide doors, single-piece rear window and spare wheel at the back (rather than built into the fenders). I believe I read somewhere that Hergé was affected by the 1935 crash of King Leopold III, wherein Queen Astrid was killed. The car involved was a 1935 Packard One-Twenty, which had suicide doors. Packards of this vintage also had single-piece rear windows (albeit of rounded shapes) and commonly had the spare wheel fitted at the back. The official scale model of this car dubs it a 1939 Packard Twelve. I agree with 1939, but I disagree with Twelve. The closest match would be the Super Eight, which had the low fenders and hood trim very similar to this car, but with 5 sections instead of 8. If you look at the source illustration, the roofline actually looks closer to that of a contemporary Ford coupe, and the windshield echoes Hudson. So, in short - this is a '39 Packard Super Eight, with several creative liberties.
