This is older than a 1997+ model.

Thumb is '97 onwards. Main is before '97.

Odd, they wrecked the newer model and let the older model survive.

rtsbusman, unfortunately Hollywood considers these expendable. I have a soft spot for them. Main is a '91-96, based on the luggage rack. Thumbnail is a 1996 Cherokee Classic.

From the front header assembly, rear tail light design, and the fact that the windows on the front doors have the divider section, this is '96 or older. The only things that suggest a newer Cherokee XJ are the rims (from TJ and newer XJ) and the Cherokee badging/text on the front doors is similar to a '97 and up so I'm pretty sure it must be a '96 or close.

Also, I'm going to go on record saying that the Jeep Cherokee XJ makes a wonderful hero car, be it in stock form or modified. Anyone who's ever owned one, or still owns one, knows that they can take an absolute beating and keep on kicking. Im particularly fond of the '97-01 cherokees but I love them all. I think in movies they are severely under-played and are too easily destroyed before the action starts. My cherokee is my zombie/red dawn plan for sure. Ironically, my cherokee is almost the same color as Jed's pick up in the original 1984 Red Dawn.

Kowalski, main is correct for the reasons you stated in the first sentence, and also because of bumper design, fender flares, and luggage rack. '91-96, as I said.
Thumb is a '96 Classic because it is clearly a pre-97 body style, and the Classic trim level was used in '96 and again '98-01. Also, those are called Grizzly wheels. They were used on '96 XJs and I think also on some TJ Wranglers.

I lifted my '01 3" on 33s, and I bought an '88 Comanche after I rolled the XJ. They sure don't get the credit they deserve.

Arlington Road also wrecked an newer model and kept the older model safe. That movie used a Ford Contour.

They are the same Jeep, a 96 Classic look at the mirrors and the trim in the thumbnail.
