This scene was a based on the death of James "Forrest" Bondurant who died from pneumonia after falling into a lake. Like in the scene, Forrest Bondurant was stumbling around drunk in the woods near the Bondurant homestead when he fell through a frozen lake. While Forrest did end up with pneumonia, in reality, it happened in the winter of 1965 with his death on the 4th December 1965. |
