Would the producers have been able to obtain any real East German cars?

I believe they would imitate a Wartburg 311(almost sized like an Aronde and too much resembling such body style)

Perhaps they were thinking in the Aronde Bacalan, a batch a 700 black painted only pré-P60 Aronde made, but not approved by Pigozzi, the Simca boss. They were sold in Eastern Europe country, mainly in Hungary and Poland. They get this name of Bacalan because some of these Aronde waited 2 years in Bordeaux Bacalan...

@bref: no, it was never available in the GDR. In Western Germany it was very rare, too, like other Simcas of that years.

Probably the took an Aronde, because it's a bit similar to an old Moskwitch.

I must correct myself: a very few Arondes (maybe a few dozen) were indeed imported officially into the DDR in the 50ies. The reason for that is unknown. The only other French cars, brought to the DDR, were many years later the GSA Pallas and for the Nomenklatura the CX (also some with longer wheelbase).

Anyways, it's obsoleteto think, if this Aronde is maybe one of them - this movie, joking about the DDR, was deeply hated by the DDR authorites and forbidden until 1990.
