If I may comment the nickname discussion: The full military name is "Vogn, felt, 1/2 T, 4x4, Volvo, modell L3314N". We usually referred to it as just "Volvo Jeep" or more officially as "Volvo Felt" Link to "www.feltvogn.no" But the military vehicle class is "Feltvogn" along with MB GW and the others. -- Last edit: 2012-10-18 20:21:53 |

Most of my family have served in the army or the air force, and I've never heard them or anyone else refer to this using any other designation than Feltvogn, that's why I'm curious. Geländewagen is Geländewagen, I've never heard anyone refer to this as a Feltvogn. When someone say Feltvogn, it seems natural to me that they're talking about the Volvo one, and none other. I believe Volvo Felt was applied just as an abbreviation, and not as the official name. Same with the Volkswagen Kübel. -- Last edit: 2012-10-18 20:05:02 |

Well abbreviation or not, it was a nickname anyway. And that's why I related to both the full name and the 'Volvo Jeep' (from GP, as you already know) as the official name and as another, less common nickname. No problem, leave it 'as is'. |
