E plate too early for a GT (and ECU 348E is a Ford Cargo 1615 - ie the generic description for a lorry on check sites). But it looks perfect for early GT (Le Mans blue, blackboard paint on bonnet), though I don't think the first ones had Rostyles. I sort of liked these when I was a kid. |

The first Viva GT had look a like alloy wheel trims which used to flake, the mark 2 had the Rostyle wheels. |

But did the "Mk2" modifications (announced Aug 69, but production only started Jan 70) still have the black bonnet?? |

Yes because Vauxhall still had MK1 models left and these were MKI 1/2 models ! before the MK2 came out. |

Thanks - link is http://www.gtclassicandsportsltd.com/our-classic-saloon--vintage-car-collection.html and scroll down. A couple of nice pics from the site: http://www.gtclassicandsportsltd.com/uploads/3/1/8/9/3189394/1934290_orig.jpg , http://www.gtclassicandsportsltd.com/uploads/3/1/8/9/3189394/1560821_orig.jpg (with a Mk2 Lotus Cortina in background as well). DVLA details for XUW 869G are: Date of Liability 01 03 2015 Date of First Registration 10 03 1969 Year of Manufacture 1969 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1975cc CO₂ Emissions Not Available Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval Not Available ... which means an original Mk1 with owner fit Rostyles. 2.3 engine would be a swap from a Magnum - 20-ish years ago I knew an ex-DTV bloke - he had co-driven works Vivas/Magnums in 1970s on UK rallies - who retired and moved to Orkney with his treasured orange Viva GT which he said was the last one produced and had a factory-fit tuned 2.3. He died late 1990s, but the car stayed in Orkney for a few years but no idea what happened to it afterwards (nor what the plate was). |
