At a time we had a "targa" category that was merged with "convertible"... |

"Targa" refers usually to coupes with a removable roof only ... I think they call them T-tops in the US. |

'Targa' is a registered trademark for Porsche AG. It is inappropriately used as a generic term for removable roof sections in the same way 'Jeep' is used for all kinds of off-road vehicles. |

Early model w/ 14 in wheels. The "S" in GTS is for Spyder and Ferrari uses that designation where Porsche uses Targa. "T-Tops" in the US started with the 1968 Corvette that maintained a center bar underneath two removeable panels. The result when open was a "T" look. The rear window was also removable on these Corvettes. After 1975 "T-tops" were very popular on many US vehicles as no factory "full convertibles" were produced (except 1976 Eldorado). |
