 I believe that the car is actually a BMW 520d with the M Sport package. In the episode (last) Intelligent Design, you can clearly see the rear badge as a 520d.

 Different numberplate in the thumbnail. Intelligent Design was a Series 7 episode and in UK TV it is not unusual for a character to get a new car for each series if vehicles are supplied by the manufacturer.

YE12MXN for the 520d is not found, but it could be that the car has been transferred to a personalised numberplate since filming. rather than a fake number.
