This film was shot in my hometown, and I remember my Great Uncle had received a call from the film production asking if they could use his 1979 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency in the film. I think he laughed and said, "no", mainly because they wanted to paint his silver with red interior car green! I never saw the film until years later, and realized that this would have been his car if he had agreed. All I can guess is that the script called for a green Oldsmobile (because Goldie's screen parents are very Irish-American and I guess such people would only have a green car...). The only thing that I can think of that they had interest in his car was that my cousin had given him a license plate frame that read "Happiness is Being Irish". The shoot was big news at the time because of the standing of Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn filming in a town that wasn't a movie setting. It's just an interesting factoid few in my family would recall, and just as well because this movie is not very good, and unquestionably, my uncle made the right decision. He only recounted the story because it was a peculiar request. |
