@rjluna2: the parking garage-sign is illuminated, and the green "FREI" and the red "BESETZT"-letterings are transparent foil. Like Link to "www.pitopia.de" The modern one: http://www.acsol.at/images/parkhaus-schild_g.jpg |

Isn't this rather a Transporter than a Kastenwagen (it's got rear side windows)... |

@ingo: I posted a question about this old style illuminated German parking sign at Internet Movie Light Bulb Database. I am hoping a member from Germany who collect lights bulb can identify the specs for this one -- Last edit: 2012-04-27 02:46:35 |

Well, there's not too much to identify. It's just a box with transparent plastic and with neon tubes inside, nothing spectacular. Have you known, that curved neon tubes, at least all in special measures, are always handmade? A time ago I've seen a reportage about one of the few -one of the last!- German craftsmen with this profession? It's a dwindling profession, for example due the construction, this parking garage-sign has. For those there's no need for specially made neon tubes. -- Last edit: 2012-04-28 19:11:34 |

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Mercury filled neon tubing with white phosphor coating. I was racking with my mind with these fluorescent light inside the sign that I see nowdays Indeed neon tube bending technique is really a dying professional which it is expensive to produce. Now they are making a shitty plastic sign powered by high output fluorescent lights which it is cheaper to produce. |
