Usually the people have the winter tires on steel wheels or cheap after sales market alloys to protect the good original alloys from the salt. In Germany it's absolutely common. Between "O and O" -Oktober bis Ostern (Easter)- ca.90% of the cars with winter tires (mandatory since a time) don't wear the good alloys.
