either a 1973 Ferrari 365 GT4 or a 1977 Ferrari 400 (or an even later 400i ...).

... or a later 412. My PC is in a bad mood so won't open thumbs to check detail, but I think differences were:
365 - six round rear lights in 2 sets of 3, black rubber bumpers
400 & 400i - four round rear lights in 2 sets of 2, black rubber bumpers
412 - four round rear lights in 2 sets of 2, body colour bumpers.
So this is 412, launched March 85??

This is definitely 'not' a 412!! The 412 have flat-faced wheels to accommodate the ABS which was introduced on the last variant of the 365 GT4/2+2, 400, 400i Series 1 & 2, & 412 series. Check the wheels on the 412 in the RTL Autowereld. These starfish wheels are concave which puts it pre-412. It's also not a 365 because they had 6 tail lights & this car only has 4. This car has been resprayed because the bumper is color-keyed (only on the 412 from the factory), yet the side mirrors are black (pre-412). It's difficult from the pic res to tell but the side mirrors appear more squarish & the back tail light fascia is black, that's a sure sign that it's a 400 or a 400i Series 1.
But again, the car has received a respray so it could be a 400, a 400i Series 1, or 400i Series 2.

OK - well argued that it's 400 or 400i. Looks as if black rear panel present which should eliminate 400i from 83 (your 400i S2??) and it looks as if driving lights are behind lower grille rather than exposed (compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ferrari400i.jpg ) which was also an 83+ change. So 400 or 400i (S1). Numbers made probably favour 400i, but our custom is to ID as the earliest possibility so 1976+ 400 (unless there was a later date for US launch?).
