In 1936 LaFayette was a model of Nash and spelt as one word with the capital F in it. All of the other La Fayettes on the site need correcting. The earlier models - 1920 to 1924 were a separate make even though the company was set up and owned by Charles Nash. He had set it up to compete with Cadillac and had hired Cadillac people to run it. When the company failed in 1924 the machinery was shipped to Racine, Wisconsin and installed in the old Mitchell plant and used to make the new Ajax, which became a Nash model from 1925. The LaFayette name was resurrected for the new lower price Nash model introduced in 1934 (January 10 to be exact). -- Last edit: 2012-05-02 21:40:41 |
