Still today, 20 years later, I feel annoyed, when I see high-performance cars (at least any higher priced car) with plates from the Ostzone They don't belong to that area. |

On the subject of plates and Ferraris yesterday I saw a Ferrari licensed V12 ROX. The noise was awesome. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_occupation_zone colloquial only "Zone". You're right, meant disdainful. You show with that term, that you don't accept the DDR as an own, independent country, and that you see it as just a Sovietish colony. Which was/still is indeed the opinion of the big majority of West Germans, not only of former Western politicans. The term "Zoni" for an East German person is more rude than "Ossi". For sure it has an established position in my personal vocabulary P.S. "Zonenwachtel" is a nickname, which goes anonymously around in the polical Berlin. Well, you may guess, who is meant with that For explanation: "Wachtel" is the German word for a quail, the bird. It's common in the German language some bird names are used in a nasty meaning for a woman. So "Eule" (=owl), "Gans" (=goose), "Huhn" (=chicken) and "Schnepfe" (=snipe). -- Last edit: 2012-02-17 21:27:53 |
