This is a forage harvester. More specifically, this is a New Holland 1880 "crop-cruiser" self propelled forage harvestor, built from July 1967 to July 1975. They weren't a good design because directly cutting hay (what that big pick-up head on teh front is meant for. NOT corn) the hay ends up with too much moisture content and spoils too easily in the silo. They did have a 2 row corn head for this type of machine, as well. In this episode, I deffinitely appreciated the attention to detail that was used by the model makers. The only thing that really made it look unrealistic was the high speed at which the reel was moving, when it was destroyed by KITT.

I was cruising around the website, and found this. /vehicle.php?id=135577 That is also an 1880 crop cruiser, but with the 2 row wide corn head I was talking about. The one in this knight rider is slightly older than the all glass cabbed 1970's one, in the link I posted.

I looked at harvesters on tractorhouse.com and I think the one on Knight Rider is indeed an 1880.

I know what it is because I used one along time ago. Model 1880 New Holland Ensilage Harvester with direct cut header used for cutting oats or barley to keep the moisture in, for dairy cow feed. also has a corn header not shown here and a hey pick up header, for cutting winrowed crop. :)
