This looks to me to be a Chevrolet or GMC with its grille and emblems stripped off. Can anyone narrow it down? You can see some faded spots where the emblems once were, which makes me think it's a GMC.

...and do any of our refuse truck experts have a make on the compactor?

It is one of the two GM Trucks made in either 1958 or 1959, and a medium-duty one at that. But with all the cowl insignias and grille stripped it's quite difficult to distinguish between the two.

Look just below the fender aerial, that slight change of paint shade looks to be for a GMC badge.

That's exactly what I was thinking, Big Dave.

The body is a non-compacting type front loader made by Bowles. When the front hopper area became filled, the entire body was tilted to allow refuse to consolidate towards the back by gravity. A low-cost alternative to similar packer-type front loaders.

Call it a 370.

From the 1955-59 Blue Chip truck line. Any model from the 300 to the 370.

The lack of bumper bullet could indicate a 1959 only model, but it also could be with the Fleet option trim, which includes... a bumper without bullets.

notice the front fender is cut out to make space for heavy-duty Trilex wheels!
could be made by Bowels together with reinforcement of chassis.
