Oh OK. Well, here it goes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0RU9Ax8MSs This is the review that supposedly damaged the Vectra's reputation. -- Last edit: 2015-09-26 15:00:35 |

Cars with a damaged reputation do have a large advantage: a low price as used car ![]() Although Clarkson is a pain in the ass for me, I should be thankful to him for that video: for that reason -its low reputation- I could buy in 2011 my 2008 Vauxhall Vectra MkII for a ridiculous price, compared with the German Vectra-prices, but also compared with the competitor's prices ![]() I'm driving Vectra (and before Omega) not because I'm a fan, just because they are cheap to buy. They are indeed not bad cars, fairly reliable and also comfortable. The Omega B more than the Vectra. It's large Grampa-plush-seats were really great ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-09-26 21:44:17 |

The fact that Vauxhall gave Clarkson a beige (Albeit the colour is called "Titanium Silver".I guess Vauxhall marketing people were colour blind at the time...) 1.8 GLS with no air-conditioning to review didn't help it either. Given the man's lust for speed and power they should have given him an SRI V6 and let Quentin Wilson review the standard Vectra. EDIT: Scratch that. Quentin Wilson didn't like the Vectra either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u1UJSNhcok EDIT 2: Clarkson almost liked the Super Touring. Almost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZAPuXbI-bE EDIT 3: Tiff Needell was no fan of the Vectra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK2zEXhs_ls I guess it's safe to say that Top Gear and Vectra never got along very well. -- Last edit: 2015-10-01 12:56:00 |

Anyways, the TG-blokes are irrelevant clowns at all. The Vectra has a much bigger advantange: marvellous advertisements: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQzWO2SXblo ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-10-02 20:39:32 |

Actually the British media never got along with the Vectra, they always preferred the Mondeo, but a lukewarm reception didn't stop people from buying Vectras and the CDX V6 Auto was a lovely car IMO. Very smooth. Speaking of adverts this is the advert for the Vectra when it was launched in 1995 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peoofRejMjc |

In Germany the Opel-Sedans as Vectra, Ascona, Rekord, etc. always had and still have the grandfather-with-hat-reputation. For decades Ford had a worse reputation (for quality reasons), it was actually seen as the worst German brand. From 1997 onwards, with the new Focus, Ford increased upwards. Around ca. the same time, 1992-1994, beginning with the terrifying Lopez-years Opel cratered. And never came up since then. One of the several reasons, why the Astra/Zafira-plant in Bochum was closed down in December 2014 Link to "de.wikipedia.org" |

![]() Opel and Vauxhall were riding on the success of the Vectra A and Mk3 Cavalier, while Ford had to improve their line-up because the Sierra and Mk3 Granada (First gen Scorpio) were already too outdated by 1990's standards, the Mk3 Fiesta was dull and boring and the Mk5 Escort was a botched job. Along came the Mondeo with multi-valve engines, driver's side airbag as standard, telescopic steering column, independent rear suspension with sub-frames and even a pen holder (OMG!), bringing levels of sophistication and attention to details to the reach of thousands of reps across Europe. No wonder it won and deservedly so the ECOTY Award of 1994. -- Last edit: 2015-10-05 21:52:19 |
