It´s actually a 3-door Coupé. |

They somehow have quite overdone it stylistically as far as the design of the front end is concerned. Far too many edges, scoops, etc. I know they were often criticised for making dull and faceless cars in the past, but designing cars like that is just as ridiculous. |

That seems to be Hyundai's MO these days. The ix35 (or whatever it's called... CBA to check... Crossoverish thing) looks like it wants to eat what's in front of it. Kia are doing much better with some of their newer cars like the Sportage. |

Their ambition seems to be to blatantly nick elements of Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo, whizz them all together, then add a few ugly bits to try to disguise the lack of originality. |

@Sandie: Yes, but didn't they have a similar policy? AFAIK they hired former Audi/VW-designer Peter Schreyer in order to "spice up" the design of their cars. -- Last edit: 2011-11-01 22:27:01 |

I'd still put it over the new Focus style-wise to be honest. Without doubt the most willfully bland and unimaginative car launched this year. Peter Schreyer is at Kia now. -- Last edit: 2011-11-01 22:25:06 |

@dsl: It's exactly as you say. They completely changed the design-language of their cars and still they simply look generic although they certainly spent a lot of money. |

With such "coupes" whole term "coupe" or "hatchback" will be terminated as redundant. |

@Sandie: I was actually referring to Kia. Sorry for my poor English! What I actually failed to express was that I see some obvious parallels between Hyundai and Kia as far as design is concerned. And the weird thing is that this awkward design- together with quite good reliability at a reasonable price, of course- has indeed helped both of them to increase their global sales enormously over the last couple of years. @Nightrider: Sad but true. |
