This is supposed to be the family's iconic bus, when they bought it and before they repainted it. But look closely at the lights and badging and it appears to be a totally different bus. The body might even be a different make (experts?).

What's the difference between a '55 Chevy bus and a '57?

The fender badge, for one. I'm pretty sure the hood badge as well.

The grille has something to do with it as well.

BTW, school buses like this tend to be 6700's.

How can you spot a 6700 as opposed to the 6800 that the multi-colored bus turned out to be?

Carpenter body

The other bus has a Superior body (which I had mistakenly identified as a Carpenter at first, the 1950s Carpenters and Superiors were similar in appearance), so it's not the same bus.

I'm not expert, but if we are talking about these buses:

then it's quite a bit obvious it's not the same vehicle. Different windshield shape, mirrors, and overall body work (Carpenter here, Superior for the other), not the same number of windows, and above all, different model year (1957 without doubt for the one of this page, 1955 only for the colored one).

Same question for me, but maybe a hint: the colored bus is said to be a 6800 with 8 + 1 (the driver's one/ the door) windows, while the "pre-colored" seems to have 7+1 windows. Which could make think it is a shorter one: 6700 buses had 194" wheelbase, while 6800 ones had a 220" wb.

Anyway, as chassis number, [6700] should be transformed in [6702] (or [6802], if 6800 bus is decided), as it was the number given by Chevrolet to the bus chassis (3802 to 10802).

⇒ 1957 Chevrolet Task-Force Carpenter Coach [6702] (or [6802])?
