GAZ sold the Maxus in Russia, but I don't think they ever began local assembly. |

I don't know - it's unclear... This car has in Russia designation LDV Maxus or GAZ 2235. It was sold 2007-2009 (now it's russian official site is dead - http://www.maxus-ldv.ru/2962/ - and they propose GAZ GAZelle instead of Maxus).
