1973 Chevrolet C 10 Custom Deluxe Fleetside Appears to be a mid range Custom Deluxe, up one level from the base Custom trim level. This trim tier arrangement would change for the 1975 model year. The optional rear differential lock was not available on the 10 Series (according to period articles) for 1973, despite being available on 20 and 30 Series. The differential lock was made available for 1974. 1973 models introduced the first energy-absorbing collapsible steering column on full-size pickups and moved the fuel tank(s) to underneath the vehicle. 1972 and older model pickups had rigid non-collapsible steering columns and fuel tanks placed inside the passenger cabin. The new aerodynamic and technology advanced cab design had teething problems. No rain channels were included to direct rain water away from the doors, so when the doors were opened, water was free to enter the cab, drenching the occupants. This was later solved by added bright polished-metal rain channels around the top of the doors. A new rear suspension design was introduced, called Load Control rear suspension, featuring a live rear axle (LRA) with dual stage Vari-Rate semi elliptic multi-leaf springs and asymmetrical (offset) shock absorber geometry. |
