 Yes, obviously a Sedan. No Super Beetle (1302) due the shape of the front fender, yes?

In the background a 1966 Fastback (1600 TL outside America).

1967 version due to both federally mandate rear backup lights.

1972 Sedan 'Beetle', then. Could an admin please remove the 'Super Beetle' tag?

Indeed, it is the Super Beetle sold in our country starting 1971 model year. The sedan did not return until 1974 or 1975 model year.

For this site, this should be listed as 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle due to the front fender shape.

It seemed like both you (Quote: 1970-72 Volkswagen Sedan 'Beetle'.) and ingo (Quote: No Super Beetle (1302) due the shape of the front fender) agreed on a not so super Beetle.

With this last remark there are other Super Beetles that are also really standard Beetles. Just to verify, I guess the reason was the end of VW 1500 production, the only version available for a period before this?

Hi tore-40 :hello: These Volkswagen Typ 1 series sold in our country with only one engine size. up to 1965, they were sold with 1192cc engine. The 1285cc (I think) was sold in our market in 1966 model year only. The 1493cc engine were sold in our market starting 1967 model year. I don't remember which model year did they upgrade to 1592cc engine for the remaining model years.

The last MY for VW 1500 over here was 1970. I assume your MY 1971 got the 1600 engine as the only option, as 1302 S/LS 'Super Beetle'. MY 1973-74 the VW 1300 was available as 'S' (with 1600cc), late into MY 1974 the VW 1200 also. Could that be when the VW 1200/1300 were back in the U.S.? [Image: smiley-transport027.gif]

Due to the toughing emission control on these engine sold in our market during the 1970's, the engine size remain the same due to the decreasing horsepower output.

So I'm confused, is the main pic a Super Beetle or regular Sedan?

I'm too, but it seems the fenders, as @ingo pointed out, and a plain rear window surrounding all in rubber, would be used on the basic version. @rjluna2 later stated that no Sedans were sold in US then, but brochures do exist, in which they're mostly named Beetle, like in the 'What year is it?' series from Volkswagen of America, Inc.

I'd say rather a Bettle. But I think @rjluna would like to have the final word here?

But rjluna was incorrect then, they did sell both versions side-by-side those years:
1971 USA Full Product line:

1972 base Beetle:

I agree with night cub's assessment. The Super Beetle and Beetle were sold together at that period of time.
