P415, its replacement, the P552 is currently under development. Ford is also reportedly thinking about making the future pickup partial unibody. |

Up until now this is the standard mode of transportation for the Mexican Federal Police's tactical forces. Also, this is specifically a 2009 model as this was the last model year that these wheels were used on the XL models. -- Last edit: 2013-02-15 07:52:40 |

Why is that? Weight savings? |

Yes, to further reduce weight, and to improve fuel economy and emissions in preparation for the new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, set to take effect in 2016. The all-new F-150 will arrive around 2014 or 2015. Still a ways off. Likely if Ford goes the monocoque route, the front half of the pickup which includes the passenger cab, will be unibody, also known as body frame integral (BFI). The rear half of the pickup which includes the pickup body will be conventional body on frame (BOF). The design is said to allow the F-150 to keep a high towing & payload capacity. The Ford Expedition is rumored to possibly share sheet metal with the F-150 once again, along with the controversial hybrid BFI/BOF design. The Ford Expedition must also increase in fuel economy, or face possible extinction, much to the dismay of the towing community. |
